Dhrubajitt Saikia was born in the river island Majuli in the district of Jorhat,Assam, India and completed his High School level of education from Meragarh High School, Majuli. He went to Jorhat to undergo his Pre University Course in Science from J B College and completed the Civil Engineering Course from H.R.H The POW Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jorhat.He is presently working in the Irrigation Department as Assistant Executive Engineer and was on deputation for a period of five years in The Brahmaputra Board under the Ministry of Water Resources, Govt. of India w.e.f 2002-2007. His sincerity and urge to work in a dynamic manner has helped him see the fruits of a number of Projects designed by him as these were completed under his planning and supervision. His experience of executing various Irrigation structures like Aqueduct, Head works for successful flow Irrigation schemes, etc.in Assam has facilitated him to be on the move. His interest in social work is reflected in the activities that he undertakes through different social organizations during his leisure. He was the General Secretary of Kaliram Medhi Sahitya Sanskriti Kendra, Assam, Beltola, Guwahati -28 during 2000-2002 and generously devoted time for the socio cultural organisation to promote, preserve and develop the language and culture of Assam. His body of literary works contains a number of Articles on various issues related to Irrigation, Agriculture and innovative projects in the rural agricultural sector.. His articles in English and Assamese on Majuli in leading newspapers including The Assam Tribune and Sadin are his most valuable contribution to give an impetus to the the greater Assamese people to work for saving Majuli from extinction.Born and brought up in Majuli he has immense love for this beautiful land and recalls with delight his childhood when he spent much of his time playing in the lush green fields and swimming in the natural streams and rivers of Majuli. His genuine interest in allround development of Majuli is reflected through his spontaneous activities as Joint Secretary of the Majuli Island Protection and Development Council (MIPADC), an NGO working for protecting the island from the fury of Brahmaputra. His article Majuli's Cry For Survival published in The Assam Tribune, Horizon( Saturday Special), Guwahati in October 9, 2004 had a number of eye opening points in focus and this has helped as reference and resource in preparing the Nomination Dossier as The MIPADC has been campaigning for Majuli's recognition as a World Heritage Site since 1995.He is also one of the Members of the Core Committee for the book The Treasure Trove a resource book on Majuli compiled by Charu Kamal Hazarika and released on 13.03.2012
